Future Finance Workshop: A group of Year 9 students took part in a future finance workshop aimed at learning how to manage your money once you are in a career. They were set a number of tasks and quizzes to find out what they know about finances and the cost of living. They had to set out some personal goals and aspirations, then find out how much they needed to earn to achieve them. Many were surprised by the outcome. One of the tasks included managing a monthly budget. This proved to be quite testing for some of the students where others found they could cope with the task quite easily. They found out which careers paid the best salaries and all about tax and national insurance. They also got to understand debit and credit cards, loans and overdrafts. The students were very interactive, asking lots of interesting questions. Quotes from the students included: “Informative and interesting.” “I liked the information about credit cards.” “This was really interesting, I’d like to do more workshops like this.”
