Mental Health, Stress, Anxiety & Student Support.

MENTAL HEALTH AND STUDENT SUPPORT

It’s okay to ask for help. One in six children, aged 5 to 16 were identified as having a probable mental health problem in July 2020, a huge increase from one in nine in 2017. That’s five children in every classroom!  You are not alone.

At Cecil Jones Academy, we are committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of all our students, working closely with parents and carers. We understand the importance of promoting good mental health and wellbeing and are proud of the pastoral provision we offer, with a dedicated Year Care Team staff and safeguarding team, to ensure that students are nurtured in a safe and caring environment.

Cecil Jones Academy has two mental health first aiders and a qualified Senior Mental Health Lead, Mrs R Langdon (AHT, DDSL); Mrs Chapman (Ast-HT DSL) and Mrs Wardle (YCT).

Students have access to a wide range of mental health and wellbeing provisions:

  • Access to NHS services.
  • World Mental Health assemblies
  • PSCHE lessons
  • Youth Health Champions
  • Self-care resources are accessible to all students (in the links below)
  • Diana Anti-bullying ambassadors

MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS

If you are worried about something, talk to an adult that you trust as soon as possible.

This could be:

  • Someone in your family, like your mum, dad or carer
  • Someone at school, like your YCT or a teacher
  • Your doctor or the school nurse

Every student’s first port of call other than speaking to a member of staff in school is to use Kooth . This offers wellbeing support 365 days a year via a range of self-help materials and peer to peer support which young people are able to contribute to.

Kooth

Kooth also has an online wellbeing team from 12pm- 10pm on weekdays and 6pm- 10pm on weekends offering 1:1 text-based online counselling via live chat or messaging.

When looking after your own Mental Health and the Mental Health of others, there are always three basic ingredients that are cited as key to helping maintain healthy Mental Health.
