Bank of England Speaker visits a Y10 Business Studies lesson

On Tuesday 4th July, we welcomed a speaker (Gavin), from the Bank of England, into our Year 10 Business Studies classes. Throughout these sessions, Gavin explained the roles and functions of the Bank of England, which we were then able to link back to our Economy topic. Gavin explained the current state of the economy, why we are where we are and why the Bank of England plays such a significant role in this.

Students were able to win £6000, of real money, throughout the sessions. As you can imagine, this really encouraged engagement, lots of questions and many hands up. Gavin took great pleasure in awarding the students their reward however, he did forget to mention that they were old, shredded £50 notes.

The students were able to see the real impact of inflation rates and why this is so closely linked to Business Studies. We look forward to welcoming Gavin back next year.
Gavin also took the opportunity to discuss career opportunities at the Bank of England, introducing the different roles and apprenticeship schemes available.
